The real negative reaction is because they know they are wrong. Start the process of being more honest with yourself. It may not be fun or glamorous, but it will put you in a much better position.

Stop doing things you know are wrong so you can stop doing right. We will not say that you know what is good or true in any ultimate sense, but we will assume that there are things that you are doing for reasons other than what you know to be true.

There are things about them that are not in your best interest, and you know you should stop. Other things that are self-evident to you that you suspect you know may not be so. which way is up and which way is down, but there are things you've been doing that you know you shouldn't be doing anymore, some of which you won't stop doing for whatever reason.

You don't have the discipline, or maybe there's a secondary payment, or you don't believe it's necessary, or it's too much of a sacrifice, or you're angry, resentful, or scared. Who knows, but there's another subset that you can stop doing. It's a little bit of a good thing. Stop doing it and see what happens. What happens is that your vision clears up a little bit.

And then something else will pop up that you'll know about too. You should stop doing it, and you can stop doing it.
